Rudolf Steiner & C.G Jung
A conversation with Jonah C. Evans, priest in the Christian Community
This is an episode that has been long in the making. I have long been fascinated by the work of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and also interested to understand the parallels between his spiritual science and worldview and Jung’s ideas.
Although their lives overlap to my knowledge they never met. Jung says he read a few books of Steiner but does not seem impressed but rather critical.
Last year spring I did a lecture at the ISAP Institute in Zurich when after the lecture Graham, an interesting and friendly man who was following the podcast asked if I should not make an episode on Steiner. I said to him that I wanted to but had not found the person to interview.
Some time ago Graham got back to me and put me in contact with Jonah C. Evans. Jonah is a priest and director of the seminary of the Christian Community in North America and is based in Toronto. The Christian Community is an international Christian movement inspired by Rudolf Steiner and still very active today. It’s a Christianity that emphasizes human freedom, the personal experience of the divine, and the importance of the sacraments.
Jonah is also well-read on Jung (he wanted first to become a Jungian Analyst) and he proved to be the perfect conversation partner to better understand Steiner’s thinking on Christianity and help to link and draw parallels to Jung’s ideas and thinking.
I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Jonah about Steiner and Jung and I hope you will also find it stimulating.
Wonderful. I met Jonah in Montreal and we had some nice talks.
